Emotions can bring color to our lives.
My interest in emotions and emotion regulation started when I had worked in educational settings and non-profit organizations. Feelings of burnout and tense social interactions, at times, elicited negative emotions. Subsequent responses to these emotions often made situations worse.
I wanted to better how and why individuals experienced emotions the way they do, what conditional factors play a role in an individual’s awareness and motivation to regulate their emotions, and how do these relate downstream emotion regulation processes (e.g., effectiveness of emotion management). In turn, do these patterns relate to well-being and do they vary based on the social and cultural context as well as across the adult lifespan?
To answer these questions, I completed my PhD in Psychological Science with a specialization in affective science at the University of California, Irvine. Currently, I am a postdoctoral research associate at Washington University in St. Louis.
In addition to my research, I value giving back to my community and translating research into applied settings. I have served as a research consultant for program evaluation efforts at Asian Mental Health Collective and on emotion-based game features for Luna Game Labs.
